Important Note: The MyBucketSystem is designed as an aid for helping estimate the retirement income that an investment portfolio may provide.
The following methodology was used to design the returns for MyBucketSystem:
The goal of the MyBucketSystem was to set a target of withdrawing less than 5% from the portfolio on a yearly basis. Certified Financial Planning studies have shown that if a client withdraws less than 5% of the portfolio during retirement they have a high probability of not running out of money. The MyBucketSystem withdrawal rate is 4.8%.
The Buckets are designed to have the following investments:
Bucket 1- Short-Term Bonds and Bills & Cash.
Bucket 2- Mid-Term Bonds.
Bucket 3- Long-Term Bonds & Preferred Stock.
Bucket 4- Stocks & Equities
The rates of returns for each bucket were selected based on the data listed below:
Bucket 1- Over the past 20 years, Short-Term Bonds and Bills have averaged 4.0% or more. We used 1.5% to be conservative.
Bucket 2- Over the past 20 years, Mid-Term Bonds have averaged 5.0% or more. We used 3%.
Bucket 3- Over the past 20 years, Long-Term Bonds have averaged 5.5% or more, but preferred stocks have averaged 7% or more. Therefore, we took a blended rate to come up with 5%.
Bucket 4- Stocks have averaged between 9.5%-10.5% since 1929 depending on the type of stocks(Large, Mid & Small). We wanted to be more conservative, so we used 8.5%. Our 8.5% includes the dividends from the stocks.
Planning and One-on-One Meetings
We specialize in helping the client understand all aspects of their planning so they understand why we constructed their portfolio. Our planning includes financial, tax, estate, purchases, financing and just about anything else that effects your wealth. We study your situation and then using our experience and knowledge customize it to your current situation. We then present and educate you on all aspects in one-on-one meetings to add that personal touch to our financial expertise. We have seen it all, so lets start working on your wealth planning together.
Investment Management
We customize each clients portfolio based on the amount of money invested in each account, their risk evaluation and if its a retirement account or a taxable account. Our equity models are formulated using in house research that seeks diversification among the S&P 500 sectors, International, Mid-Cap & Small-Cap. Individual stocks and ETFs make up our holdings. Our fixed income portfolios consist of individual bonds and bond mutual funds based on the size of each account. We use innovative technology to help manage our models to consistently rebalance the actual portfolio to the targeted model. This allows us to control risk and focus on the investment research.
Retirement Income Solutions
How much monthly income can you afford to take from your portfolio during retirement? This is the question all clients need answered before they retire so they can feel they are making the “right” decision. We have developed a retirement income calculator called the “My Bucket System™” that aids in developing a reasonable monthly withdrawal amount that will give you the highest probability of not running out of money during all your retirement years. Do you want to know how it works? Scroll down to the My Bucket System™ page and start setting your goals for retirement.
Risk Evaluation
Evaluating your risk is one of the most important things we do. Many people understand their risk tolerance and most know what they own. However, they have no idea how their current portfolio compares to their ability to handle risk. Vickerman & Driscoll will assess your risk and then compare your portfolio to your evaluation. Clients have found this to be one of the best tools in our toolbox. Try it know!
